Singer Nina Rose Kankunda’s involvement with the National Unity Platform (NUP) has sparked concern among ruling party supporters in Sembabule.
Following her participation in NUP events, including Women’s Day celebrations and press conferences, Nina Rose has been laying groundwork to contest for Woman MP in the district.

However, her growing popularity is perceived as a threat to the ruling party’s stronghold in the area. Lewis Rubongoya, NUP General Secretary, revealed that police in Sembabule recently prevented Nina Roz from meeting with supporters at her parents’ home, demanding she return to Kampala and threatening arrest if she stayed.
According to authorities in Sembabule District, they hadn’t received notice about the gathering and instructed attendees to vacate the premises, citing lack of permission from the RDC. The police, led by the DPC, ordered the music to be switched off.
Rubongoya attributed this treatment to Nina Rose’s association with NUP, highlighting a perceived double standard where politicians linked to the current regime operate freely, while NUP supporters face harassment. This incident underscores concerns about impunity and unequal treatment under the law.
