Deputy Speaker Tasks Minister Norbert Mao to Revise Statement, Adjourns Plenary Sine Die

BY ALEX DON

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament on Thursday directed the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon. Norbert Mao, to update and resubmit a statement he had earlier presented to the House. The directive came during a session of #PlenaryUg, where members were deliberating on key national matters.

The Deputy Speaker did not specify the reasons for requesting the revision but emphasized the importance of providing comprehensive and up-to-date information to Parliament. Hon. Mao acknowledged the directive and committed to revising the statement accordingly.

Following the instruction, the Deputy Speaker adjourned the plenary sine die, a Latin term meaning “without assigning a day for a further meeting.” This implies that the House will reconvene at a date to be communicated in due course.

The adjournment drew mixed reactions from members of Parliament and political observers, with some expressing concern over the indefinite suspension, especially in light of ongoing national issues requiring parliamentary oversight.

As the country awaits the resumption of plenary sittings, all eyes will be on the updated statement from Hon. Mao and any forthcoming communication from the Office of the Speaker regarding the next sitting.
