Reason Over Emotion: A Call for Thoughtful Political Leadership

By Alex Don

In a time when political tides seem increasingly influenced by emotion and sensationalism, Ugandans are being urged to return to a foundation of reason, reflection, and responsible civic engagement.

If we drive politics without reason, one day we shall be led by an emotional fool, says Twekambe Kabaruli T.K, addressing growing concerns about impulsive political decisions and the consequences of sentiment-driven leadership.

Kabaruli emphasizes the need for citizens to scrutinize those they choose to entrust with national leadership.

We need to dig deep into who we are trusting with the mandate to serve us in the next five years,

he continues, pointing out the long-term impact of our political choices.

In reference to recent political rhetoric, Kabaruli expresses disappointment with divisive remarks made by some opposition leaders. “If someone doesn’t support [a particular candidate or party], it doesn’t mean he or she is a fool—like the way how Bobi Wine called all Baganda supporting NRM,” he says. “That kind of politics undermines unity and fuels unnecessary tension.”

The story also raises a critical question about patriotism and national responsibility: “Who on earth or in which country can they tolerate an opposition member who goes to the donors and publicly asks them to stop or drastically cut support and donations?”

Kabaruli warns against actions that could sabotage national development efforts, regardless of political affiliation. “Ugandans, don’t be driven by sentiments; rather be driven by reasoning and assessment,” he urges.

This call for thoughtful leadership and mature political dialogue resonates in a country with a vibrant but often polarized political landscape. As the next election cycle approaches, Kabaruli’s message is clear: Uganda’s future should not be gambled on emotional theatrics, but carefully shaped by informed and rational choices.
