Speaker Among Receives FUFA Women Super League Trophy, Calls for Greater Investment in Girls’ Sports

Kampala, Uganda – Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anitah Among has received the FUFA Women Super League trophy, celebrating the growth of women’s football in Uganda and calling for more strategic investment in girls’ sports.

The trophy, presented by officials from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), symbolizes the strides women’s football has made in the country. Speaker Among praised the players, coaches, and administrators for their commitment and dedication to raising the profile of the women’s game.

“I am honoured to receive this trophy on behalf of Parliament and the people of Uganda. It is not just a trophy—it is a symbol of how far we have come in empowering the girl child through sports,” Speaker Among said during the handover at Parliament.

She underscored the transformative power of sports in shaping the lives of young women and called on FUFA to step up efforts in nurturing female talent from grassroots to elite levels.

@OfficialFUFA must deliberately harness girls’ talents to build their competitiveness to global standards. Our girls deserve every opportunity to shine on international stages, and that begins with structured support and investment right here at home, she added.

Speaker Among also encouraged schools, local governments, and the private sector to work with FUFA to develop inclusive programs that promote girls’ participation in sports.

FUFA officials thanked the Speaker for her continued support of women’s football and pledged to expand programs aimed at talent development, mentorship, and competitive exposure.
