Tooro, Uganda – In a move that has electrified both the cultural and political spheres of Tooro, renowned cultural artist and music icon Abooki Kahwa Kansengerwa officially joined the National Unity Platform (NUP) and declared his intention to run for Mayor of Central Division.
The announcement came on Friday, May 02, 2025, during a well-attended party meeting led by Rwamuhumbu Davis, the NUP sub-region leader. Supporters and local leaders were stunned as Abooki took to the stage to declare his political intentions, marking a dramatic shift from art to public service.

> “I have sung for the people, I have celebrated our culture with them — now I am ready to serve them,” Abooki stated. “My goal is to bring dignity, opportunity, and youth-focused leadership to our Central Division.”

His transition from cultural figure to political candidate has already begun sparking discussions about generational leadership, youth empowerment, and the role of artists in governance.

Rwamuhumbu Davis welcomed Abooki with open arms, calling his decision “a major boost to the party and the people.”
> “Abooki is not just a musician—he is a voice of the people. His leadership will inspire a new wave of civic engagement,” Davis remarked.
