Hon. Okwir Samuel Dominates Moroto County Opinion Polls Ahead of NRM Primaries

Alebtong District | June 22, 2025 — In a major boost to his 2026 parliamentary campaign, Hon. Okwir Samuel has emerged as the overwhelming favorite to retain the Moroto County seat, according to a comprehensive opinion poll conducted between June 5 and June 12 across 37 parishes in Alebtong District.

The poll, covering seven administrative units—Alebtong Town Council, Aloi Town Council, Apala Town Council, and the sub-counties of Apala, Aloi, Abia, and Akura—sampled a total of 3,700 residents. Respondents were drawn from diverse demographic groups: 30 women, 30 youth, 20 men, and 20 elderly per parish, offering a balanced reflection of the electorate’s views.

Okwir Leads With a Commanding 55%

The data puts Hon. Okwir Samuel ahead of the competition with 55% of total support, more than triple that of his closest rival. His performance across key sub-counties confirms his wide appeal:

Apala Sub-county: 60% Alebtong Town Council: 80% Akura Sub-county: 63% Abia Sub-county: 40% Aloi Town Council: 70% Aloi Sub-county: 40% Apala Town Council: 50%

Even in areas where other candidates showed some strength, such as Abia and Aloi Sub-county, Okwir maintained a strong presence—solidifying his reputation as a unifying figure across Moroto County.

“The people have spoken. They see Hon. Okwir as the most dependable, experienced, and grounded candidate to take Moroto County forward,” said Olwa Peter, a respected elder from Akura Sub-county.

Development-Driven Leadership

Okwir’s growing popularity has been largely credited to his track record in community development. He has spearheaded infrastructure projects including road rehabilitation, drilling of boreholes, and support for underprivileged learners, with over 370 students benefiting from his education sponsorship initiatives.

His health interventions, especially targeting women and children, have drawn praise, facilitated through partnerships with Kellermans Foundation and Rotary Club of Switzerland, courtesy of the former Vice President.

In Apala Sub-county, youth leaders hailed his dedication to skills development and agricultural empowerment.

“While others are known only by posters, Okwir is known by action,” said Betty Akello, a youth leader from Otweotoke.

Unless significant momentum shifts occur, analysts predict Hon. Okwir is on a solid path to clinching the NRM flag bearer position.

As the NRM primaries approach, Okwir has called on supporters to maintain unity and focus on issue-based politics.

“This overwhelming support to Okwir is a call to serve with humility and renewed commitment to the people,” John said.
