Kampala, Uganda | Parliament News Desk The Government Chief Whip, Hon. Hamson Obua has officially proposed the names of Members of Parliament to serve on the newly established Parliamentary Committee on Lands. This development marks a significant milestone in government efforts to address increasing concerns surrounding land ownership, management, and dispute resolution across Uganda.

Hon. Obua, while presenting the list during a plenary sitting chaired by Speaker Anita Among, emphasized the urgent need for a dedicated committee to handle land-related matters given the complexity and national significance of the sector.
Land remains one of the most sensitive and contested resources in our country. This committee will ensure that Parliament provides focused oversight and legislative direction in this critical area,” said Hon. Obua.
The creation of the Lands Committee follows recent debates in Parliament regarding escalating land evictions, unclear land titles, and the urgent need for reforms in the Uganda Land Commission and district land boards.
The proposed members reflect a blend of experienced legislators and new voices known for their interest and work in land matters. While the full list awaits final approval by Parliament, sources indicate that the committee will begin work as early as August 2025.
Speaker Among welcomed the proposal and praised the Government Chief Whip for acting promptly, saying:
Land issues affect every region of Uganda. With this new committee, we are equipping Parliament to respond more effectively to the needs of our citizens.
The Committee on Lands is expected to work closely with the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development and other key agencies to investigate cases, review legislation, and propose policy reforms.
As land continues to shape Uganda’s socio-economic landscape, the establishment of this committee is seen as a proactive step toward more accountable governance and fairer land administration.
