Lango, Uganda | CTV Uganda — In a bold stance against corruption and electoral malpractice, voters in Moroto Constituency have overwhelmingly re-elected incumbent MP Okwir Odwee as the NRM flag bearer, rejecting widespread vote-buying attempts during the recent party primaries.
The primaries, which saw high voter turnout and a peaceful voting process, demonstrated the electorate’s growing demand for transparency, merit, and effective leadership. Despite attempts by rival candidates to influence outcomes through monetary incentives, voters stood firm and chose integrity over inducement.
Okwir Odwee, who has consistently championed development in the region, secured a decisive victory against his closest rival, Oledo, along with two other contenders. His track record in improving infrastructure, education, and healthcare services played a significant role in his re-election.
“This win is a testament to the faith my constituents have in my work. It also sends a strong message that vote-buying and other corrupt practices have no place in our democracy,” said Odwee in his victory speech. “I urge the people of Moroto to maintain their support in the upcoming general elections to ensure continued progress and development.”

Election observers praised the conduct of the Moroto primaries, highlighting the transparency of the process and the political maturity exhibited by the voters. They described it as a model example of grassroots democracy in action.
With the NRM officially endorsing Okwir Odwee as its candidate for the upcoming general elections, the spotlight now turns to the main race, where he will face off against opposition party contenders. Many residents are hopeful that his re-election will mean continuity in development projects and a stronger voice for Moroto in Parliament.
“This election wasn’t about money. It was about trust, service, and results,” one voter told CTV Uganda.
As Moroto heads into the general elections, the constituency’s firm rejection of vote-buying sends a powerful message to the rest of the country—that Ugandans are ready for clean, accountable leadership.
