Kampala – National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has been officially nominated to run for president in the upcoming 2026 general elections. His nomination was confirmed by the Electoral Commission amid excitement from his supporters who thronged the streets in celebration.
Moments after his nomination, Bobi Wine delivered a bold statement, directly challenging President Yoweri Museveni, who has ruled Uganda for nearly four decades. The opposition leader called upon Museveni to peacefully hand over power, emphasizing that the country belongs to all citizens and not to one individual.
Ugandans deserve change. This is our moment, and we are telling General Museveni that the time to hand over power has come. The future of this nation is in the hands of the people, not a single ruler, Bobi Wine declared.

The NUP presidential flag bearer promised to champion good governance, fight corruption, and restore hope for millions of young Ugandans struggling with unemployment and poverty. His campaign message is anchored on freedom, democracy, and unity.
Supporters waved party colors, sang revolutionary songs, and expressed optimism that Bobi Wine’s candidacy represents a new dawn for Uganda. Security forces maintained a heavy presence around the nomination venue to prevent disruptions, but the event concluded peacefully.
President Museveni, who has also been nominated, seeks to extend his rule beyond 40 years, setting up a highly contested race between the veteran leader and the youthful opposition figure.
