Kampala – Tension has gripped Kawempe after the reported abduction of National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy Spokesperson, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, by unidentified armed men believed to be military operatives.
The incident occurred on Monday at Kawempe Magistrates Court, where Mufumbiro had joined other NUP leaders to attend the bail hearing of Eddie Mutwe and several colleagues.
According to the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, Mufumbiro briefly stepped out of court before he was violently seized and bundled into a silver Noah van, registration number UAK 368K, which immediately sped off to an unknown destination.
This is yet another act of cowardice and criminality by the regime, targeting opposition voices through abductions and intimidation, Ssenyonyi said.

The NUP has consistently accused security forces of orchestrating abductions and arbitrary arrests of its members. This latest incident is expected to deepen public concern over the government’s treatment of political opponents.
By press time, authorities had not yet issued an official statement regarding Mufumbiro’s whereabouts.
