The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has officially suspended the popular “Omusunsuzi” program on Salt TV, citing serious violations of broadcasting standards.
In a statement issued on Saturday, UCC said the decision followed several complaints from viewers regarding the program’s content. The regulator noted that the show contained abusive language, inappropriate remarks, and unprofessional conduct by presenters, raising concern for children and young audiences who may be exposed to such content.
- UCC Directives to Salt TV
As part of its enforcement, UCC has directed Salt TV to:
1️⃣ Suspend the “Omusunsuzi” program with immediate effect.
2️⃣ Respond in writing to all complaints raised.
3️⃣ Submit recordings of all episodes aired between August 1 – September 12, 2025.
4️⃣ Provide UCC with the full program script for review.
Salt TV is required to comply with these directives and submit all the requested materials by September 19, 2025.
UCC explained that broadcasters are expected to uphold professional standards that safeguard viewers—especially children—from exposure to harmful and offensive content. Programs that fall short of these standards, the Commission emphasized, will face strict action in line with the law.
“Omusunsuzi” program will return to air after the suspension, pending the outcome of UCC’s review. Salt TV has not yet issued a public statement regarding the matter.
The suspension serves as a reminder to broadcasters across Uganda to exercise responsibility in content production and ensure compliance with the Electronic Media Act and UCC broadcasting guidelines.
