President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has declared that among the eight presidential candidates lined up for the 2026 general elections, he remains the best choice for Ugandans, citing the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) unmatched record in restoring peace, rebuilding the economy, and driving national development.

Speaking during an interaction with journalists from the Lango Sub-region at Baralegi State Lodge in Otuke District, President Museveni emphasized that Uganda’s transformation story is deeply rooted in the NRM’s ideology and leadership.

“If you are honest and not envious, you know the economy of Uganda and the recovery it got was because of NRM. The progress you can see is because of NRM. Everybody had failed to bring peace to Uganda, I could say for the last 500 years,” Museveni said.

He noted that Uganda’s history had long been marked by instability — from pre-colonial times to post-independence — until the NRM restored lasting peace. Referring to the Lango sub-region, which was severely affected by the Lord’s Resistance Army insurgency, Museveni highlighted that since 2006, Uganda has enjoyed unprecedented stability after defeating major rebel groups such as the ADF and LRA.

The NRM flag bearer also spoke about Uganda’s remarkable economic journey, saying that when he took over in 1986, the economy was worth only $3.9 billion, but it has now grown to $66 billion. He attributed this growth to consistent investment in infrastructure, energy, health, and education.

“We have worked on roads, there is electricity even here in Baralegi, Patong, Kalongo, and Abim. Health centres have been built unlike before. Some roads need repairs due to lack of coordination, but that will be sorted,” the President explained.

Museveni further highlighted poverty alleviation programs initiated under the NRM government, such as Entandikwa, Bonna Bagaggawale, Operation Wealth Creation, and Parish Development Model (PDM), which he said are all products of NRM’s ideology of “prosperity for all.”

He urged Ugandans to actively engage in wealth creation instead of remaining spectators in the country’s economic transformation.

Museveni concluded that the NRM remains the only political party capable of guaranteeing Uganda’s stability and long-term progress, thanks to its proven ideology and historical contributions.
