Uganda has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the 121 member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) for entrusting it with the leadership of the global bloc over the past year. The message, delivered with optimism and clarity, reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to championing shared global prosperity through cooperation, innovation, and mutual respect among nations.

> “I thank the 121 countries around the world that honored us with the opportunity to lead this great movement over the past year, and we look forward to focusing on the world’s minimum common interests. These include trade, investment, tourism, security, and so on,” the leader said.

He emphasized that global advancement should be viewed as a collective opportunity rather than a threat. According to him, when one nation rises, especially through technological and industrial growth, it opens new doors for others to prosper.

Drawing from recent global trends, he pointed out that in the past, developing nations were discouraged from processing their own minerals under the pretext of limited global demand. However, the emergence of economies such as China has transformed the global market, significantly increasing demand and prices for resources like steel from USD 200 to USD 900, creating new opportunities across the world.

The leader reaffirmed Uganda’s belief in equitable development and collaboration, urging all nations to focus on the “minimum common interests” that bind humanity rather than those that divide.

The advancement of one nation through technology and other means is not a threat but an opportunity for the rest of the world

As Uganda’s tenure in the Non-Aligned Movement continues, the country remains steadfast in promoting South-South cooperation, fair trade, and a global system where every nation benefits from shared progress.
