Kyegegwa District, Uganda Officials from the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development have commended women and youth groups in Kyegegwa District for their outstanding performance in promoting and effectively utilizing government development programs.
While addressing beneficiaries of the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program (UWEP) and the Youth Livelihood Program (YLP) at the Kyegegwa District Headquarters, Mr. Fred Ngabirano, the commissioner in charge at the Ministry, praised the district for its impressive progress in implementing these initiatives.
The reports we have received from the technical staff in Kyegegwa show that both the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship and Youth Livelihood Programs are performing very well,” said Mr. Ngabirano. Kyegegwa stands among the best districts at the national level, with UWEP recovery at 84 percent and YLP recovery at 64 percent. This is a great achievement worth celebrating.

He further appreciated the district’s technical and political leadership for their commitment and close supervision that have ensured accountability and success in these programs.
Adding his voice, Mr. Engabi John, the Regional Program Officer for UWEP and YLP under the Ministry of Gender, highlighted the importance of strong leadership and coordination in the district’s success.
We commend the leadership of Hon. Flavia Kabahenda, during her tenure at the Ministry of Gender, said Mr. Engabi. Her guidance and commitment ensured that funds for the youth were well managed, and recovery has been consistent across groups.

Meanwhile, Hon. Flavia Kabahenda, the former Committee Chairperson under the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development, expressed her gratitude to the Ministry officials for recognizing Kyegegwa’s progress. She emphasized the importance of expanding social protection programs, beginning from childhood, to build a resilient future generation.
There is a need to scale down social protection right from childhood to avoid future problems, Hon. Kabahenda said. The funds given to women and youth under UWEP are meant to empower and protect them economically. I applaud the government for fully supporting these groups, and I’m happy that in the next financial year, more funds will be allocated to strengthen these initiatives.

She also lauded her fellow Members of Parliament for sustaining these government programs that continue to uplift citizens, urging beneficiaries to prepare themselves for more opportunities.
Let us continue using these funds wisely so that we can qualify for more support in the future, she added.
