The Rwenzori region stands as a shining example of transformation under the steady and visionary leadership of H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government.
Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs, Mr. Kawamara Mishac has commended the tremendous progress achieved in the region, attributing it to deliberate government investment in peace, infrastructure, education, health, and economic empowerment.
Mr. Kawamara noted that the restoration of peace and stability remains the cornerstone of Rwenzori’s development journey.
The days of insecurity and fear are behind us. Our people can now work and live peacefully, and this peace is the foundation for every other form of development, he said.

Mr. Kawamara highlighted that the NRM government’s long-standing peace efforts have enabled the Rwenzori region to thrive. He recalled early government interventions such as mass immunization campaigns that eradicated six killer diseases, resulting in a healthier and more vibrant population.
He also cited key social programs that have empowered communities, including:
Free education through UPE and USE programs
Youth skilling through Industrial Hubs and Presidential Initiatives
Expansion of health infrastructure to ensure accessible healthcare services for all
Through massive infrastructure development, the NRM government has opened up the Rwenzori region to new opportunities.
Key roads such as the Fort Portal–Kasese–Bwera Highway, Fort Portal–Bundibugyo Road, and the Kyenjojo route to Fort Portal have been fully tarmacked
Additionally, the Kazo–Buremba–Kabagore–Mpara–Kyegegwa–Hapuuyo–Karuguza–Kakumiro–Nkooko–Kisiita–Ntwetwe Road is under active reconstruction, further enhancing trade and mobility.
Other key projects like the Mubende–Mityana and Kyegegwa–Kyenjojo roads are also being reconstructed by underscoring government’s unwavering commitment to infrastructure modernization.
These developments continue to facilitate trade, tourism, and economic activity across the Rwenzori region.
In the education sector, government initiatives such as Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE) have expanded access to learning for all children.
The establishment of the Presidential Skilling Center in Kyenjojo and the upgrading of the Mountains of the Moon University have further empowered young people with practical skills and knowledge aligned with Uganda’s evolving economy.
The health sector has also registered major milestones, with the Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital upgraded and several health centers renovated across the sub-region.
These investments have improved maternal and child health services, expanded access to quality medical care, and strengthened the overall healthcare system.
Agriculture, the backbone of Rwenzori’s economy, continues to flourish under programs like Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) and the Parish Development Model (PDM).
These initiatives have boosted productivity, created jobs, and increased household incomes, especially among youth and women.
Rwenzori’s tourism potential has equally flourished. With peace restored and infrastructure improved, visitors are now flocking to the region’s breathtaking attractions such as the Rwenzori Mountains National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park, creating new income opportunities for local communities.
Mr. Kawamara emphasized the importance of sustaining the achievements made under President Museveni’s leadership, noting that these reflect the President’s unwavering commitment to national transformation.
When we talk about Protecting the Gains, we are safeguarding the peace, stability, and prosperity that President Museveni has brought to our people. His continued leadership ensures that the Rwenzori region will not slide back but moves forward into greater progress, he remarked.
