Veteran media personality MC Kats has announced plans to quit television next year, bringing to a close career that has spanned more than 23 years across Uganda’s major TV stations. Despite earning about USD 1,000 per month from his role at NBS Television, Kats says he is ready to move on and concentrate on personal ventures, particularly in the digital space. Speaking during a club appearance where he had traveled for a show, MC Kats said he feels fulfilled after decades of service on television and believes the time has come to step aside. He noted that the decision is not driven by dissatisfaction but by a sense of completion and responsibility to the industry.
This industry must keep growing, and that can only happen when we allow new people to come in and shine, MC Kats said.

Currently, MC Kats co-hosts NBS After 5 alongside Douglas Lwanga, DVJ Mercy, DJ Roja, and Viana Indi. He explained that his exit would help create room for upcoming talent, adding that television should continuously evolve by embracing fresh voices and ideas. Reflecting on the entertainment sector, MC Kats also spoke about the growth of emceeing as a respected profession. He expressed pride that many young people now take emceeing seriously, unlike in the past when early pioneers were often dismissed and underestimated. MC Kats’ television journey began at WBS TV before he moved to NTV Uganda, where he worked on the popular show Xpozed. He later joined NBS Television, where he became one of the station’s most recognizable media personalities. As he prepares to transition from television to platforms such as YouTube, MC Kats’ planned departure signals the end of a significant chapter in Uganda’s media industry and the beginning of a new phase focused on digital innovation and mentorship.
