The National Unity Platform (NUP) has confirmed that Hussein Bitumu, an aide to Kawempe North Member of Parliament Elias Nalukoola, has been found after going missing for two days under unclear circumstances.
According to a statement released by NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, Bitumu was discovered in the early hours of Friday morning after allegedly being abducted and detained without communication. He was reportedly abandoned at Lugogo Bypass at around 4:00am.
Rubongoya said Bitumu had been held incommunicado during the period of his disappearance, raising fresh concerns over the safety of opposition supporters and political aides.
The party did not immediately disclose Bitumu’s physical condition but noted that he is now safe and receiving necessary care. NUP has since demanded accountability from security agencies and called for investigations into the incident.
Bitumu’s disappearance had sparked anxiety among family members, colleagues, and party supporters, with NUP leaders publicly demanding his immediate release.
The incident adds to a growing list of alleged abductions involving opposition figures, which the party says undermine the rule of law and respect for human rights.
