President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has launched his campaign trail in the Rwenzori Sub-region, beginning with a visit to Kasese District, where he commended the area for maintaining peace and steadily progressing in development. Addressing residents, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming the region through ambitious infrastructure projects.
Museveni announced that rehabilitation of the old Malaba railway line is already underway and revealed plans to construct a new Standard Gauge Railway route to reinforce regional connectivity. He further disclosed that the government will construct an international airport in the Rwenzori corridor, a move expected to boost tourism and facilitate easier access for investors and travelers.
I was pleased to find peace and continued development in the area. We are committed to further transforming Rwenzori, President Museveni said.

The Head of State also reiterated the seven major contributions the NRM government has delivered over the last four decades, noting that prioritisation has been key to achieving milestones such as major road networks in Kasese and across Uganda.
He acknowledged that Kasese requires additional road machinery and affirmed that the government will equip the district with more resources. On electricity access, Museveni emphasized that every district in Uganda now has a power supply except Buvuma Island, adding that plans are underway to extend electricity to all remaining sub-counties nationwide.
Residents expressed optimism that improved transportation, infrastructure, and power distribution will unlock economic opportunities and strengthen the region’s appeal as a tourism and agricultural hub.
