The Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has appointed Deo Asiimwe Akiiki as his Military Assistant, in a move that reshapes part of the leadership structure within the Uganda People’s Defence Forces.
Col Akiiki, who has been serving as the Deputy Army Spokesperson, confirmed the development and said the appointment takes immediate effect. He described the new role as both an honor and a responsibility, pledging to serve with dedication and professionalism.

In his new position, Col Akiiki will support the CDF in coordinating key military functions, including operational readiness, personnel management, and strategic planning.
With over two decades of experience in military public relations, Akiiki has been a familiar face in communicating UPDF operations both locally and internationally. His career spans critical assignments in northern Uganda during the LRA insurgency, as well as deployments in Karamoja, Somalia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He also expressed appreciation to the media fraternity and fellow officers for their support throughout his career, calling for continued cooperation with the Defence Public Information office led by Maj Gen Felix Kulayigye.

The appointment, however, leaves questions about the next assignment for Col Chris Magyezi, who previously held the same role, as well as who will take over as Deputy Army Spokesperson.
Col Akiiki holds two master’s degrees and is currently pursuing a PhD, reflecting a blend of academic and professional experience that positions him for his new responsibilities at the highest level of military leadership.
