President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on Ugandans to focus on peace and economic self-empowerment as the foundation for sustainable development, urging citizens to move from subsistence living to commercial productivity

Addressing thousands of residents at Zombo Upper Primary School playground on Saturday afternoon, the President emphasized that government investments in infrastructure and social services must be matched by individual efforts to generate wealth.

The President, who was accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, was received by top government and NRM officials, including Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, ministers, and party flag bearers.

President Museveni noted that the NRM government has ensured peace across the country, which now provides a solid base for economic transformation. He encouraged families to use their land productively for both food and income-generating activities, citing the Parish Development Model (PDM) as the central channel for achieving household wealth.

He explained that every parish receives Shs100 million annually under the programs, and with disciplined borrowing and repayment through local SACCOs, each community can build a sustainable revolving fund over time.

Zombo District alone has already received Shs18.73 billion, with nearly 18,700 households benefiting directly from the PDM funds.

President Museveni challenged the people of Zombo to embrace a shift in attitude — from waiting for government support to taking personal responsibility for growth.

He cited examples of Ugandans who have turned small plots of land into thriving enterprises, noting that the country’s prosperity depends on productivity at the household level.

We built roads, schools, and hospitals, but they can not feed you. You must use what is available to create wealth and secure your family’s future, the President said.

Museveni also announced plans for a new government fund aimed at supporting university graduates who have been unemployed for more than two years, ensuring that educated youth also participate in wealth creation efforts.

He reiterated that peace, stability, and inclusive economic empowerment remain the core pillars of the NRM government’s mission, urging leaders and citizens alike to take ownership of the country’s progress.
