Pretty Nicole Speaks Out: Hon. Balaam Barugahara’s Promises Were Just Empty Words

By Alex Don

Ugandan internet sensation Pretty Nicole, real name Nicole Musimenta, has come out to express her disappointment in Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, the State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, accusing him of making unfulfilled promises.

At the beginning of the year, Nicole made headlines when she paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Balaam, during which they reportedly had a lengthy and positive discussion. From that meeting, the Minister pledged to support Nicole’s education by covering her school fees and providing all necessary scholastic materials to ensure her success.

In addition, Hon. Balaam had allegedly promised Nicole an opportunity to travel to Canada—a move that would help her acquire valuable skills in rehabilitating and mentoring teenagers, particularly on the dangers of early marriages and other life-altering social challenges.

Fast forward nearly four months, Nicole claims none of the pledges made by the Minister have come to life.

“Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi wasn’t the one paying my school fees. Maybe he was just excited that I had agreed to go back to school, so he felt like giving me a hand. But I’ve not seen anything happen,” Nicole shared during a recent interview.

She further expressed that she was unaware of any official ambassadorial role that had been discussed publicly, stating that nothing tangible has been communicated or initiated on that front.

“Maybe it was propaganda, but I am yet to see anything materialize. I think it was politics, and I am not a fan of politics. So, I don’t want to be appointed.”

Nicole’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions online, with some netizens sympathizing with her situation while others criticize what they view as performative political engagement aimed more at media hype than real change.

Whether this was a case of misunderstood intentions or calculated political theatrics, Pretty Nicole’s story highlights the importance of accountability—especially when promises are made to inspire and uplift young people.
