Parliament of Uganda – Hon. Tom Bright Amooti, the Member of Parliament for Kyaka Central Constituency in Kyegegwa District, today made a passionate submission before Parliament, calling for urgent government intervention on road safety and infrastructure on roads.

Addressing the House, Hon. Tom highlighted the deplorable condition of key roads in Kyegegwa particularly the Kyegegwa–Kyenjojo road noting that its poor state has disrupted economic activity, hampered access to Fort Portal Tourism City, and posed a serious threat to lives and local development since Kyegegwa is the gateway to Fort Portal Tourism City.

The condition of our roads is not just an inconvenience it’s a risk to lives and livelihoods. Our people deserve better, said Hon. Tom. The Kyegegwa–Kyenjojo road has become nearly impassable, affecting business, access to services, and daily movement.

He urged the Ministry of Works and Transport to prioritize the road’s rehabilitation, stressing that poor infrastructure directly undermines economic growth and public safety.

In response, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, the Minister for Works and Transport, acknowledged the concerns and assured the House and the nation that the government is taking action.

I want to thank Hon. Amooti for raising a matter that truly affects the people, said Gen. Katumba Wamala. I want to assure this house that the Kyegegwa–Kyenjojo road has been earmarked, and work on it will commence very soon. The ministry is committed to improving road safety and infrastructure across the country.

The minister’s pledge was met with optimism by fellow MPs and the people of Kyegegwa District, many of whom have waited for years to see improvement in the region’s road network.

With Parliament turning its focus toward road safety and infrastructure development, all eyes are now on the Ministry of Works and Transport to deliver on its promise and ensure safer, more accessible roads for the people of Kyegegwa and beyond.
