Lil Pazo Vows His Music Will Stand the Test of Time

By Alex Don

Ugandan singer Lil Pazo has brushed off critics who often dismiss his music as short-lived, trendy, and sometimes controversial, insisting that his songs will remain relevant for generations to come.

The “Enkudi” hitmaker likened his musical journey to that of the legendary Afrigo Band, a group that began performing during the Amin era and has since become a cultural treasure.

Afrigo started in the Amin regime, and today, when they organize a Kikadde show, the same people who enjoyed them in their youth are the ones filling up Serena. We who sing Enkudi and Ekisododo, when we live long enough, we shall also call upon those of our time, Pazo remarked confidently.

While some critics argue that Lil Pazo’s lyrics and style lean too heavily on fleeting trends, the singer maintains that his work reflects the spirit of the times—something that will be remembered fondly in the years ahead. He believes that just as Afrigo’s music evokes nostalgia today, his own songs will one day be celebrated in a similar fashion.

Pazo emphasized that longevity in music is not about avoiding controversy but about connecting deeply with audiences. For him, the laughter, joy, and cultural references in his songs are markers of history that future listeners will cherish.

What we sing today defines an era. Tomorrow, people will look back at these songs and smile because they remind them of their youthful days, he added.

Love him or hate him, Lil Pazo is certain that his catalog will evolve into classics over time. As Uganda’s music scene continues to grow, he envisions himself one day standing on stage at a “Kikadde” concert, singing for fans who grew up dancing to his playful yet memorable hits.
