Comedian-turned-politician Reign Omusoyisoyi (real name Obedi Lubega) has declared that he will not run as an Independent candidate if he fails to secure his party’s ticket for the Rubaga South parliamentary seat in the 2026 general elections.
Speaking after attending the party’s vetting exercise at Makerere Kavule, Reign emphasized that his focus is on strengthening party unity rather than pursuing a solo political path.
If God wishes and I get the flag, I’ll call the journalists and present my manifesto. I’m ready 100%. Sixty percent is already sorted on the ground, and I’ve come for this 40% from the party. However, if I don’t get the card, I’m open to standing behind whoever the party picks, he said.

Reign is contesting against four other aspirants who are also eyeing the Rubaga South ticket. The constituency is considered one of the most competitive in Kampala, attracting both seasoned politicians and new entrants.
Despite the pressure, Reign insists that his ultimate priority is service, loyalty, and the goodwill of the people, not just winning the seat.
Reign’s foray into politics adds him to the growing list of Ugandan entertainers crossing into public service. He maintains that his decision to run is inspired by the need to amplify community voices and strengthen his party’s presence in Rubaga South.
